There was a time in the not so distant past that companies used to advertise without the use of computers or the Internet. As computers became more affordable, companies found ways to save costs by doing their own printing for ads. Then, the Internet became wide spread and companies had to adjust once again. However, many companies have not investigated how network marketing online has fundamentally changed the way we do business.
Most anyone will state that computers changed how businesses completed tasks. What had once taken several employees or even a department to do could be done quickly and efficiently with fewer people. They realized quickly that they could save money with personnel.
When the world wide web became accessible, computers were even more valuable. Not only could they simplify work, they could get information from around the world instantly. This, in turn, caused more streamlining to occur.
Suddenly, industry understood that they could move parts of their business into virtual stores on the Internet. They sent their employees to web design classes to stay competitive. Over time, the workers realized they had more knowledge than their leaders, so they left the company to start their own business. Thus, the at home working population exploded.
Throughout this progression, marketing was relegated to an internal department. Those employees were responsible for coming up with the ideas that would then be put into action for advertising. Initially, the ideas revolved around ads in newspapers or radio spots, even some television.
The at home businesses realized that there was a market to break into, and they began going to companies and offering them an advertising package that would be mailed to customers. These rates were reasonable and tended to work well, thus this idea gained in popularity.
Then, information overload took hold. As computers and the Internet gained popularity, companies were struggling to keep up with the latest techniques as new technology seemed to change daily. They began to think of every person who touched the internet as a potential dollar sign. To capture the potential, companies began using computer-based advertising as their main method.
Businesses began hiring people to do nothing but market their company material on the web. They hired more employees to figure out ways to get more customers through the internet. Then, they hired specialized companies to figure how to reach an even larger audience.
As this flurry grew in relation to the web, other methods of advertising started to decline. Companies did not want to waste money on bill boards when only a fraction of the population saw them. This decline continues today.
Now, many of the changes have come full circle. What companies are finding out, is that relying solely on the internet for the majority of the advertising needs, is not getting the new customer base that they intended. Network marketers once again have to change their methods.
What many businesses have determined, is that one tool cannot meet every need. Thus, computer based marketing is not the revolutionizer many thought it to be. Understanding how network marketing online has fundamentally changed the way we do business, is the first step in finding a combined method that will work for years to come.
